Charu is a Senior Registered Psychologist who works predominantly from a Psychodynamic perspective to provide therapy that assists her clients to work through difficult personal experiences and corresponding difficulties in their relationships.

Charu can be described as a Psychodynamic Psychologist and as a Psychotherapist. She has a postgraduate degree in Clinical Psychology.

Charu has accumulated extensive experience over time providing psychotherapy and psychological interventions for adults and adolescents from diverse cultural backgrounds. Over numerous years she has developed particularly well-refined counselling and psychotherapy skills. She has extensive experience applying these skills to the delicate art of working with clients presenting with a wide range of different psychological issues. From roles she has held in the past, she has a particularly sophisticated knowledge of ‘trauma informed’ recovery models along with experience in the delivery of evidence based practice in the area of trauma.

Alongside her years working in private practice, Charu recently worked for a well regarded not-for-profit organisation. In this role Charu provided individual and group supervision, professional learning, and specialist consultation to counsellors in trauma informed practice. Charu worked at this organisation for more than ten years. In addition she has previous experience working in a hospital setting, she has contributed to the field of psychoanalytic research in both Australia and Finland, and she has taught Psychology at a number of Universities.

Charu works primarily from a  Psychodynamic Psychotherapy framework. Her theoretical orientation and her intelligent and carefully considered therapeutic approach enables her clients to work through difficult personal experiences and relationships. She is skilled in assisting her clients to develop awareness of their patterns of behaviour and their underlying emotions. She enjoys the process of the therapeutic engagement, whereby her clients develop a greater sense of agency and empowerment to make creative choices about their own lives.

In short, Charu’s work with clients is informed by her sophisticated understanding of psychoanalytic and psychodynamic concepts. She has  extensive experience applying these concepts to her therapeutic work.

Charu is also trained in other modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy, and Client Centred Therapy which is an approach that Charu utilises to meet the needs of her clients. She can offer short term, medium term or long term therapy to address her client’s chosen goals.
