Carol Fraser

Carol Fraser is a Psychotherapist and an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with more than 39 years of experience providing therapy for clients with a wide array of mental health issues.

Carol has a warm, intelligent, and philosophically informed approach to providing psychoanalytically and psychodynamically informed individual psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults, and older persons. Carol also provides psychotherapy for couples and families. She is experienced in working with culturally and linguistically diverse persons, and has a particularly interest in working with clients from Greek and Pacific Island cultures.

Carol enjoys assisting each of her clients to achieve dynamic, effective, and positive life choices. She incorporates the high standard of social work ethical values into her psychotherapeutic approach to assure that each session is respectful and sensitive to the needs of each client.

Carol studied under Leonardo Rodriguez since 1986, and is grateful for his supervision and the ways in which his understanding of Lacanian Psychanalysis has influenced her unique therapeutic approach. Lacanian Psychoanalysis has had a primary impact on Carol’s thinking and consequently it has significantly informed her psychoanalytic practice since beginning with Leonardo. Carol credits this approach for her capacity to create a good holding environment and to facilitate change for her clients.

Lacanian Psychoanalysis has also shaped the way in which ethics and  the central notion of desire inform her practice. Carol wrote her Masters of Psychoanalysis Thesis on “The Ethics of Desire and the Lure of the Void: A Lacanian Psychoanalytic Structural Literary Tragedy Text Analysis of Thomas Mann’s Death in Venice”.

Her background in social work has provided Carol a practical approach towards Psychotherapy along with a sound knowledge of societal issues faced by clients and community resources availed to clients. Carol is experienced in motivational goal setting, work place stress reduction, issues related to workplace bullying, and issues related to organisational dynamics. Carol has experience in providing supervision in these particular areas.

Carol is a graduate of the University of Melbourne and  Victoria University.  As an accredited mental health social worker she is able to provide Medicare rebates for sessions of psychotherapy in person and via Telehealth.  Carol is also eligible to provide services for clients funded by Workers Compensation, TAC, and for Veterans who qualify for Department of Defence benefits.
