Dr Sherilene Carr

Dr Sherilene Carr is a Registered Psychologist who has worked with adults of various ages and cultural backgrounds, many of whom have experienced significant life-stressors and trauma.

You can expect Sherilene to sit alongside you as you explore how you have coped with stressful life events, what impact this has had on you and your relationships, and how you can move towards a future of inner peace, wellbeing and safety. Her approach is to build a strong therapeutic alliance grounded in respect and authenticity. From this base, openness to identifying defences that limit personal growth can be explored in a safe place, and strategies can be developed to overcome those defences. Sherilene’s aim is to enable you to support yourself as you move towards your new way of being.

Sherilene has had training in several evidence-based treatment modalities, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Schema Therapy
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Sherilene has completed a PhD in psychology, writing her research thesis on the effect of emotion on memory. She has worked in a number of settings, including academia, public service and the criminal justice system.
