Janet is a Registered Psychologist with many years of experience. She is endorsed in the area of Clinical Psychology and uses Psychodynamic Psychotherapy in her work with Children, Adolescents and Adults.
Janet has worked overseas and locally in public and private hospitals, community settings as well as private practice. Janet enjoys working across the age range and has experience in working and offers individual psychotherapy, parent counselling, and play therapy.
Janet has a warm and gentle style and aims to provide a therapy space that feels emotionally safe. She believes that the experience of feeling emotionally safe is crucial in order for the psychotherapeutic work to move forward.Janet works in a non – directive way while simultaneously encouraging people to be curious about themselves and their inner world – that is, their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. In sessions Janet supports a process of collaborative and exploratory thinking together, which in turn may lead to new and different ways of conceptualising and managing life experiences in which people may have previously felt stuck. This can take time, however, and so Janet has a preference for medium to long term psychotherapy (but is able to offer short term psychotherapy too where appropriate).
While Janet has a strong interest in psychodynamic theories and neuropsychology, she works in an eclectic, evidence-based way, tailoring psychotherapeutic interventions to the specific needs of each individual.
Janet has an interest in the areas of anxiety, depression, early attachment issues, loss and grief, peri-natal and adjustment difficulties. Janet also provides professional supervision and is an accredited supervisor.
